Douglas, GA
In winter, there is nothing more that I love than a delicious bowl of French onion soup. Recently, I got to devour a tasty bowl of the soup at Danny's Pizza in the small town of Douglas, Georgia.
This restaurant has a really cozy atmosphere. The inside looks like a typical pizzeria: decorated in red decor. At the same time, it appeals to the local culture with its numerous photos, relating to the town.
Other than pizzas, the restaurant serves salads, sandwiches, pastas, and of course French onion soup.
When I went, I ordered the soup, and some jalapeño poppers for an appetizer.
The jalapeño poppers had a side of green pepper jelly. Very festive and fitting for the holidays!

The poppers were made well, but with the jelly, it was an interesting pair. For me, the sweetness from the jelly overpowered the rich, cheesy, and slightly spicy flavors of the poppers.
However, some of the people with me disagreed. I guess it depends on your tolerance for sweet foods. In general, the appetizer was made well, and had a unique twist.
Now for the French onion soup, I can only praise! The soup was cooked perfectly, and was at an agreeable temperature. The sweet caramelized onions paired with the saltiness of the broth gave the perfect flavor combination. The bread on top was like a flavorful sponge. Of course, a thin layer of cheese was melted on top, which only added a rich flavor and smooth texture.

Although there are different versions of French onion soup, this one was pretty common and simple, but absolutely delightful! Overall, it was salty, slightly sweet, and rich with different textures.
If you're craving some warm meals for winter, head over to Danny's Pizza! You won't regret it.
